I came across a great dog training post today from a fellow dog lover…
“Making these mistakes with your Boston terrier puppy? “
It refers to dog training, and particularly with Boston Terrier puppies. The blog owner wanted to share some insider tips for training a dog breed some say are too difficult to train.
I completely agree with his ideas, and the truth is;
It does matters not what dog breed you train. As long as you follow a structured exercise pattern you can train any dog to do most of the basic skills dogs MUST LEARN before they have a right to live amongst humans.
And as dog owners, it is our duty to teach a dog, adult or puppy how to behave around other dogs and humans.
It is not the dog that causes frustration, pain and suffering from dog attacks. Nor is it the dogs fault when they chew, damage or chase after other animals, or even worse, like chasing the neighbours car or the children riding their bicycles!
All dogs, whichever breed they belong to, must have at least a basic set of skills, and that only comes from dog training and dog obedience classes. And the younger the dog the better the results.
How well you train a dog depends on many things…
Type of breed, local environment, previous skills, belief, patients and how much time you actually have to spare are all major factors to consider.
But there are plenty of dog training and dog obedience resources at your disposal. Books, websites, clubs, dog classes and even dog and puppy training videos!
So there are no real excuses for not training a dog, adult or puppy. And he’s the best part; Dogs love to train, they love to work and they most definitely thrive with one-on-one dog with their owner.
Well, that’s my “2 pennies worth” of dog training advice! It was spurred on by a fellow dog breed professional who wanted to put the record straight.
Learn all you can about the dog you own, you’ll be glad you did.
